Public Journalist - March 2007

Now this is Real Blogger Money

March 6th 2007 10:06
Early in January Judith O’Reilly launched Wife in the North, an online blog of her battles with three children, two elderly parents and an absentee husband, while living in little town half an hour away from the nearest supermarket.
In mid-January her blog was mentioned on the website of MP Tom Watson, who's a blogger too - she had asked him for some advice. The next day Iain Dale, a political commentator and a prolific blogger, linked Wife in the North to his site. Next came Andrew Sullivan, the American writer and Sunday Times columnist. He took note of the quality of O'Reilly's blog, and advised US readers. Suddenly she had an audience of thousands.
A few days later, Patrick Walsh, a British literary agent and publisher, checked out the blog, saw its potential and started working on a book deal.
He calls the blog, 'wry, humorous and honest.”
O'Reilly and her husband moved up north to get away from the big smoke, but her husband has still been away for weeks at a time, leaving O'Reilly to deal with the kids and extended family.

You can read some extracts from the blog/book here.
