Good Tidings To All At The Central Park Holiday Tree Lighting
Holiday merry-making begins on Sunday, December 9, from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm with the annual lighting of Central Park’s picturesque Charles A. Dana Discovery Center (inside the Park at 110th Street between Fifth and Lenox Avenues).
Hosted by the Women’s Committee of the Central Park Conservancy and generously sponsored by Con Edison, the Central Park Holiday Lighting is a free event offering fun activities, music and refreshments for the entire family.
Held rain or shine, this festive event is organized by the Central Park Conservancy’s Education and Programming Department and features:
* Pinecone bird ornament making
* Holiday musical instrument (shaker with bells) craft project
* Cookie decorating
* Acapella group, “The Accidentals,” singing Christmas favorites
* Free hot chocolate
Founding sponsor Con Edison is also providing flashlight key rings for all guests.
At 4:45 pm, a procession ⎯ featuring the musical instruments made at the event ⎯ will be led to the junction of Central Park North and Lenox Avenue to view the spectacular lighting of both the Dana Discovery Center and a series of holiday trees lining the Lenox Avenue Malls between 110th and 125th Streets. The expanded Lenox Avenue Tree Lighting celebration is sponsored by the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone in collaboration with NYC Department of Parks & Recreation and the Central Park Conservancy.
