Stem Cell Breakthrough

No Embryos Required!

Two different research teams have reported having successfully achieved direct reprogramming of human cells, without using embryos.

Embryonic stem cell research has been under so much controversy of late, with many people considering it to be immoral. On the other hand, the research is essential for the study of genetic diseases.

With this new breakthrough, scientists may soon be able to get the same results using other human cells, eliminating the need for embryos.

This is a very welcome breakthrough. I hope they don't completely abandon embryonic research though, you never know what the differences between the two approaches may be.

If they can get the same results from this while eliminating the controversy, that would be great. More research is needed in all areas though, I think.
